Infrastructure’s role in economic growth focus of conference
New Rochelle, N.Y., Jan. 23, 2008 -- Terex Corporation today announced that it will sponsor Infrastructure: A Pathway to Prosperity, a day-long conference to be held February 19, 2008 at Iona College, dedicated to examining the critical role of infrastructure in advancing the global and U.S. economies.
The conference will focus on the historical role of infrastructure in creating economic growth and opportunity; the challenges facing America’s aging infrastructure; and how we pay to fix the problem, including new methods for financing public works. Topics such as congestion pricing, interstate transmission grid improvement needs and public- private financing options also will be covered.
Despite bridge collapses, steam pipe explosions, the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, crippling blackouts and the 9/11 attacks, a consensus has yet to emerge on how best to tackle a growing problem that could cripple our economy and threaten the health and safety of all Americans. This conference’s main objective is to help advance public understanding and foster dialogue leading to broad-based and non-partisan support to bring about action on this important issue.
“Around the world, infrastructure building is booming, while many feel that the lack of spending on America’s aging infrastructure is affecting our ability to compete in the global marketplace,” said Ronald M. DeFeo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Westport, Conn.-based Terex. “Sponsoring this conference is a good way to bring together experts from a variety of fields, influential current and former office holders, labor leaders, and the broader public on the challenges and opportunities we face today.”
While not a final list, confirmed participants include:
• John Engler, President of the National Association of Manufacturers and Former Michigan Governor;
• Harold Ford, a Vice Chairman of Merrill Lynch and former Congressman;
• George Pataki, Counsel, Chadbourne & Parke LLP and former New York Governor;
• Dick Gephardt, CEO, Gephardt Group and former U.S. House Majority Leader;

Terex to manufacture scissor lifts in
Coventry, UK
“One Terex” effort benefits from manpower, existing plant space and strategic location.
Redmond, Wash. (January 15, 2008) – Two Terex business segments are coming together to share resources, working out of one facility to take advantage of existing plant space and available manpower. Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP) and Terex Construction, two business segments of the Terex Corporation (NYSE:TEX), have recently partnered in Coventry, England to manufacture Genie® scissor lifts. The combined effort offers greater operational efficiency than could be obtained by operating two facilities and provides Terex AWP a facility closer to its customers in the robust European market for aerial work platforms.
“We are seeing a significant increase in demand for our products in the European market. The partnership between Terex AWP and Terex Construction allows us to utilize the strengths of both business units while acting strategically and cost effectively. Additionally, we will have the added benefit of offering greater customer responsiveness and improved lead times,” said Matt Fearon, Vice President and Managing Director for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia for the Terex AWP Business.
“With this joint project in Coventry, we are demonstrating a tremendous opportunity to work as ‘One Terex’ and take advantage of the open plant space and capable operations,” said Bob Isaman, President of Terex Construction. “This is a great opportunity to share best practices, and a prime example of how two different divisions can unite forces.”
The Coventry location will initially manufacture two Genie® mini electric scissors: the GS™-1532 and the GS™-1932, which are also known as “slab scissors.” The two models offer excellent maneuverability, a zero inside turning radius, non-marking tires, a variable speed DC motor and 25 percent - 30 percent gradeability, among other features. The new location in the United Kingdom will allow Genie Industries to distribute products closer to its customer base, thus eliminating long lead times.
The line was fully developed and tested at the Genie Industries Redmond, Wash. headquarters before being implemented in Coventry. The teams worked diligently to create the assembly line, materials distribution system and supporting management system, utilizing the latest application of the Terex Business System.
“We are using many of the lean manufacturing methodologies that we have applied at Genie over the past few years,” said Fearon. “We worked closely with a cross functional team from Coventry during 2007 to teach them how the line has been designed.”
Production and shipping of the products have already begun.

The passing of a pioneer
Rock Gillette, the founder of National Lift Equipment and a pioneer in the lift equipment brokerage industry, passed away recently.
Gillette was a visionary who recognized that construction companies needed a reliable broker of used equipment to give them more flexibility in bidding for and working on projects. In 1990, he founded NLE to fill that need. Today the company he created provides customers with fast access to equipment they need, and with a way to sell surplus equipment at fair market prices.
This success can be traced directly to Gillette's strong business philosophy which stressed that the company offer solid product knowledge, outstanding customer service, absolute integrity and rapid resolution of each deal. These principles remain the foundation of the business.
As the World Wide Web changed the way the world does business, Gillette made sure NLE stayed in the forefront. Under his leadership, the company made its equipment listings easily available on-line, complete with accurate information and photos of the equipment. Today the Web accounts for half of NLE's sales, and has enabled the company to develop significant business in the Near and Far East markets.
Rock's drive and can-do spirit were apparent to all who hew him, either in person or by reputation. He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he was Roger Staubach’s center on the football team. After the Academy, he became a member of the Navy's elite Seal unit. He was a devoted family man and was involved in several local civic and church groups.
Rock Gillette will be deeply missed.

Bob Bartley appointed Director of Field Service for Terex AWP
Redmond, Wash. (January 15, 2008) – Terex announced today that Bob Bartley has been appointed to the new position of Director of Field Service for the Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP) business. Terex AWP includes Genie Industries, Terex® Power Products and Terex Load King. In his new role, Bartley will oversee both field and factory service organizations for Terex AWP.
“Bob’s extensive industry experience, leadership skills and knowledge of our business are valuable assets to provide the best service to our customers,” said Bruce Taber, Sr. Director of Quality and After Market Support for Terex AWP. “He already has high respect from within the organization and with our customers so he is a natural fit for this role as we always aim to provide the most customer-focused service available.”
Terex AWP service experts are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with a strong team of field service experts strategically located throughout North America. Bartley’s goal is to carry forth that tradition and to continuously look for improvements in the organization.
“When our customers do business with us, they get much more than a piece of equipment,” explained Bartley. “We understand our customers’ business and we are committed to their success. My goal is to make our service organization the most responsive and the easiest with which to do business in the industry.”
Bartley first joined Genie Industries in 2000 as a field service representative and was quickly elevated to the position of the Western Regional Service Manager for Terex AWP. Directly prior to joining Terex, Bartley spent 23 years as service manager for Adco Equipment and United Rentals. Adco was the largest independent aerial lift dealer in California until United Rentals purchased it 1998.

One year incident free
The employees of Trico Lift, a full service aerial lift company headquartered in Millville, N.J., recently experienced a milestone achievement having worked safely through 2007, making it a full year without any lost work time or recordable incidents. The company employs nearly 100 people.
“In an industry where safety is of the utmost importance, we’re very proud to have achieved this significant achievement of one whole year without a recordable incident or one that required more than basic first aid treatment,"CEO and President Ken Pustizzi explained. “This means that the Trico Lift team has persisted for a considerable period of time to think safety first. It is a testament to our company philosophy that ‘Safety is everyone’s business’.”
In addition to its Millville, N.J. headquarters, the company maintains offices in Beltsville, Md., Gainesville, Va., Marcus Hook, Pa., Cincinnati, Ohio, and South Plainfield, N.J. The company has a diverse customer base throughout the eastern United States including large industrial companies, contractors and government agencies.
Pustizzi attributed the recent feat to the company’s risk identification efforts and its comprehensive Safety Training and Accident Prevention program. The program includes regular training sessions and meetings for all employees to ensure the team is knowledgeable of established and proven work safety practices as well as compliance requirements.
Steve Phillips, Trico Lift Safety Director, says the company’s audit and inspection efforts also promote employee safety and the safety of those using Trico’s equipment. Accident prevention measures, according to Phillips include reviewing near misses and incidents, examine root causes and implement necessary controls to prevent future occurrences are also.
"Our key objective,” Phillips added, “is to maintain a zero injury or damage work environment.”
